CAMPAIGN IN YOUR AREA

Our campaign is based on a straightforward idea – the louder our collective voice, the harder it will be for our politicians to ignore our calls for change. Local campaigns, which deliver for your community, are often one of the most effective ways you can strengthen our campaign and collective voice.

For guidance, tips, or advice on what you can do, we have produced a local Campaign Toolkit

JOIN A LOCAL GROUP

Our Local Groups are an opportunity for like-minded people to come together in a social setting and make friends, debate, and campaign for change.

We currently have 6 local groups across the UK:

  • Bristol and the South West
  • Wales
  • Cotswolds
  • Wessex
  • Brighton & Hove
  • North London

WHAT DO LOCAL GROUPS DO?

As a grassroots group, My Death, My Decision relies on the passion of supporters like you to drive our campaign for a compassionate assisted dying law in our country. By joining a local group you will have the opportunity to campaign on the ground, you can do this in many ways.

1. Meet with your MPs

2. Hold community campaign meetings

3. Write to MPs, PCCs and Health Trusts

4. Host a public meetings with another local campaigning organisation

5. Write to your local newspaper, Contact local radio and TV Stations.

REMEMBER:

Every single local group is different, you know your local area best so it’s important to find like minded people who support assisted dying and want a change in legislation.

Local groups are affiliated with MDMD but do not represent us or speak on behalf of us without prior expressed authority to do so.

Please get in touch if you would like to get involved with a Local Group in your area. If there isn’t one near you we can also support you to start a new group.

For questions about our local groups please contact: mail@mydeath-mydecision.org.uk

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

ENGAGE WITH LOCAL POLITICAL PARTIES

If you are already a member of a political party, then using your grassroots connections to put assisted dying on the agenda can be a powerful way to start a conversation with your local representatives.

MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD

As well as the above steps, you can also take personal action by joining an NHS patient participation group and putting assisted dying on the agenda, quizzing your local Chief Constable at a regular local meeting, asking for your council to pass a local motion in support of assisted dying, writing to the Secretary of State for Justice and urging him to hold an inquiry, or even use your local networks to build our movement.

WRITE TO YOUR ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES

Sending a message to your MP is vital to show them that assisted dying matters to voters.  It is also the best way you can help to influence their thinking and demonstrate the passion behind our movement.
